The problem, in one line
What happens
Villagers in Sirmaur district had to carry the body of an 80-year-old woman on their shoulders for about six kilometres to reach her village, because a road damaged in the monsoon remained closed. The road has stayed closed since the onset of the monsoon, which arrived in Himachal Pradesh on June 30 and withdrew on October 3. The roughly eight-kilometre Tina Gularwala road, built in 2014, connects Tina Gularwala and over half a dozen surrounding villages to the Rama-Dhageda main road. A Block Development Council member said taking the sick to hospital on time has become difficult and farmers' crops are being ruined because they cannot be taken to markets. The road falls under panchayat jurisdiction; the Public Works Department restores it every year, but this time it remains closed, and the panchayat pradhan said the PWD has been informed.
