The problem, in one line
What happens
A resident of Marshalls Road in Egmore said unscheduled power cuts have become a daily feature in her locality, sometimes lasting a few hours. TNPDCL technicians attend to helpline complaints and replace the cable, but the same issue resurfaces. A consumer may not know the capacity of the transformer or the distribution network, so the executive engineer for the area should first be informed of such complaints. A senior engineer said an upgrade or a new transformer is decided when the transformer reaches more than 80% load, and the time to process a tender is usually three to four months. The citizen charter sets 90 days as the timeline for work that involves placing or shifting a transformer structure.
