What happens
Indians lost INR 1,935.51 crore to digital arrest scams in 2024, with 1.23 lakh complaints lodged on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. In the first two months of 2025, 17,718 digital arrest incidents were reported, involving INR 210.21 crore. More than 38 lakh cyber fraud complaints were reported on the national portal between its launch in 2021 and February 2025, with reported losses of Rs 36,448 crore. Of those losses, Rs 4,380 crore has been frozen in bank accounts, while about Rs 60.5 crore has been refunded.
