What happens
Heavy rain in Nepal raised the Gandak River and caused severe flooding in six districts of Bihar, including Saran; the State government took help from Indian Air Force helicopters to drop dry rations and food packets. According to the Disaster Management Department, the floods affected 3.2 lakh people in 170 villages across 33 panchayats in seven blocks in Saran district. Over 28 tonnes of food supplies, more than 5,600 dry ration packets, were airdropped across 15 sorties in the flood-affected areas of Saran district. A 58-year-old man died after relief material dropped in bulk from a helicopter fell on him near a relief camp in Saran. Embankments were damaged at six locations across West Champaran, Gopalganj and Saran districts, and the Chief Minister said compensation would be transferred to flood-affected families in a second phase on October 12, 2026.
