The problem, in one line
What happens
The province is directing Edmonton to repeal its zoning bylaw and revert to parameters in place before 2024, and to restore minimum on-site parking requirements in place before 2020. Edmonton will have 18 months for its review of the land-use bylaw. Calgary will be directed to create an overlay identifying lands restored to previous low-density residential zones. A University of Alberta housing scholar said undoing the bylaw will create a lot of uncertainty, with investment decisions made under the current rules now in question.
