What happens
Inspections by the Kerala State Pollution Control Board found that vehicles carrying food waste were being washed at the Brahmapuram dumping site, close to the banks of the Kadambrayar. The non-recoverable portion of food waste was being dumped near the Sector A area, where biomining of legacy waste has been completed. The Brahmapuram stretch of the Kadambrayar is among the 32 polluted river stretches identified by the Central Pollution Control Board in the State. Officials said that given the site's proximity to the river, there is a high risk of contaminated leachate entering the waterbody. The civic body has been asked to arrange collection and management of contaminated leachate, and the Corporation says a space will be earmarked for washing the vehicles.
