What happens
Against a requirement of around 750 ambulances across Karnataka, only 350 to 400 are currently operational, resulting in delays of 45 minutes to an hour in some cases. The Health Minister urged the public not to depend solely on the 108 service over the next two months, and advised people to use ambulances at taluk-level government hospitals during emergencies. 108 ambulance service employees threatened to go on strike from the night of Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The government says it needs until December to restructure the service and introduce a new fleet through a fresh tender, as the existing fleet had deteriorated since 2018.
