What happens
Just over 10 per cent of child-care spaces in B.C. are subsidized to $10 a day. In February, the government announced that no new child-care centres would be added to the $10-a-day program. About 33,000 families have benefited from subsidies for lower-income families, while others have seen their child-care fees cut in half. Child care is the second largest expense for families with young children, according to the $10-a-Day Child Care Campaign.
