What happens
31,707 patients are still waiting on P.E.I.'s patient registry to be attached to a family doctor or nurse practitioner, even after a drop of 5,100 since January 2025. An MLA said Island medical students in other provinces never received a recruitment call from Health P.E.I., while their classmates were contacted by their own provinces. Health P.E.I.'s interim CEO said privacy laws prevent medical schools from sending out a list of students or where they're from. Health P.E.I. said that when admission letters go out it literally searches through Facebook to find out whose relatives got in. Over the summer, Health P.E.I. established a website where medical students and residents can voluntarily provide their contact information.
