What happens
A report by the consumer and data protection association ADDP estimated about 28 million Brazilians fell victim to Pix scams in 2025, with people over 50 making up 53% of cases. In the 'wrong Pix' scam, criminals send money, ask for it back, then open a MED claim alleging fraud, so the victim loses money and has funds blocked. From 1 October 2025 the MED became 100% digital inside bank apps, without needing to contact customer service. The MED cannot be used for commercial disputes or for a Pix sent to the wrong person by the payer's own mistake.
