What happens
Residents say heavy vehicles used to build the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram damaged the roads of nearby villages such as Dibbalapalem, Ravada, Byreddipalem, Gudepuvalasa and Kancheru. Many villages lost easy connectivity after the airport was built on nearly 2,500 acres, and farmers can't bring produce home or carry fertilisers to their fields because the approach roads are damaged. Officials said a shortage of funds had delayed the construction of new roads and approach roads. The Vizianagaram Collector directed GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited to immediately repair the damaged roads and lay new ones where needed, using CSR or other funds. Passengers using the service roads have to travel at least eight kilometres to reach the national highway, the only route to the airport; NHAI assured changes in a couple of weeks.
